Dear Prospective Beta Club Members(grades 10 - 11) . . .
The National Beta Club recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and
social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters
leadership skills, and provides settings for members to develop interpersonal relationship skills.
Membership in the “W” School chapter requires many things; Members must maintain an excellent academic record, as well as be a good role model. In order to assure that members continue in good standing, we have outlined specific guidelines for members to follow.
Application Process: (PLEASE SEE FORMS PAGE FOR APPLICATION)
ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED INTO MS. SCALES (room 3302) OR MRS. BROWN (trailers - T22) BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th NO LATER THAN 2:30 PM. They must be completely filled out and signed by the parent and applicant. No applications will be accepted after this date and time. No exceptions.
Note:
Make sure that your name is spelled correctly on all your Beta documentation including sign in sheets. Do not use nicknames or middle names as the name that you give us will be what is printed on your induction certificate. There is a $10 fee that you will be responsible for if you want to change the way that your name is displayed on your certificate. Make sure that when you see a list of Beta members names that you are on the list, see an officer or club advisor if your name is missing from any updated member lists. Again we will not be responsible if you do not get a certificate or if your name is missing or misspelled on your certificate.
Academics:
Once your student becomes a member of The National Senior Beta Club, grades will be checked at the end of every nine weeks, members must maintain an A/B average. GPA's will be checked each quarter. If a member's GPA drops below a 3.5, they may be SUSPENDED from Beta Club for the next quarter. If the member's GPA is still below 3.5 for the following quarter, they will be REMOVED from Beta Club. If any member does not meet any of the required membership responsibilities and their membership is withdrawn, no membership fees will be refunded regardless of the reason for dismissal.
Dues:
There is an annual membership fee $20 for all new and $5 for returning members. This fee covers dues to the National Beta Club, new member certificate, and the reception that follows the Induction Ceremony.
Returning members: $15 (school club dues and T-shirt) - ONLINE
The will be no refund if you do not fulfill membership expectations or requirements.

Character:
Part of being a member of the Beta Club is demonstrating good character. Members must set an exemplary example for everyone. If a member receives ISS (in school suspension) or OSS (out of school suspension) for any reason, he/she is immediately dismissed.

- Dues will be collected ONLY online by September 13, 2019 and will include an extra $10 for T-shirts!
- YOU MUST HAVE YOUR DUES ON THIS DATE. IF YOU KNOW AHEAD OF TIME THAT YOU WILL BE MISSING THE MEETING, PLEASE EMAIL AN OFFICER OR ADVISOR.

- Sponsored hours can be earned by volunteering for any of the opportunities posted on THIS Beta Club website
- Sponsored activities are organized or approved by the Beta Club officers and faculty advisors ONLY
- *****THIS MEANS THAT WAKEFIELD HS OPPORTUNITIES ARE NOT SPONSORED UNLESS SENT OUT BY THE BETA CLUB
Unsponsored Hours:
A maximum of 15 unsponsored hours are allowed by all Beta Club members
- Unsponsored hours must benefit the Wakefield, Raleigh, or North Carolina community and must be completed through a recognized service organization outside of Wakefield High School community
- Examples include: volunteer assistance at homeless shelters, nursing homes, Habitat for Humanity, SPCA, churches, etc. You are not limited to these suggested options.
- Feel free the contact any of the Beta Club officers with any questions regarding possible unsponsored events
- A maximum of 5 sponsored hours for faculty assistance (teacher help) can be counted per year.
Additional Policies, Guidelines and Information:
- Students who do not complete the required 30 hours of service per school year will be dismissed from the Beta Club and will not be eligible to rejoin the club during the following academic school year.
- Students who do not submit a minimum of 15 hours at the January deadline will be dismissed from the Beta Club and will not be eligible to rejoin the club during the following academic school year.
- NO LATE HOUR SHEETS WILL BE ACCEPTED
- If the information on the hour’s sheet is incomplete or not legible, those activities will not be counted. Incomplete information may lead to insufficient completion of hours, therefore, leading to dismissal from the club.
- Un-sponsored hours for summer service will only be accepted if the activity was completed after August 1st, 2018.
- Activities and hours performed for Beta Club cannot be counted towards other clubs. This is commonly referred to as “double dipping” and is not permitted.
- Seniors will only receive a cord for graduation once they’ve submitted the required service hours for the school year.
- The Induction Ceremony is mandatory for all new members.
Summer Hours
- If your hours were Wakefield sponsored hours then we will accept them from ALL summer
- If they were unsponsored they must have been completed AFTER August 1st for a max of FIVE (5) summer hours
